A 0  ,  A 2FFdFFMinutes 2/25 Meeting We started the meeting with 3 announcements: Please dont start cleaning up/stacking chairs until adon olam is over. I will remind everyone in the announcements. Remember about our commitment to composting and recycling. Jonathan Klein has begun his compost! We will take a kids picture on Purim! Diane Klein and Deena will work out the time for that. We then went on pass Chanochs proposal for hiring leyners. The qualification, though, is that we leave discretion to the committee for those who are clearly qualified. Also, people suggested more extensive publicity of add- all 3 rabbinical schools, plus day schools (for the teachers there). Next, was our discussion about the quality of davening. It was proposed that perhaps people who are commonly the daveners get together once or twice a month to share niggunim etc. This could take place on Shabbat afternoons. We discussed whether this would be for the leader of the community and decided that we wanted both. So, it would be great to have a melaveh malke to teach new tunes. In talking about a davening institute, it was suggested that it could be a part of Limmud LA next year. We also would like to always have beginning and advanced learning so that people are always in the pipeline to daven. It was suggested that we have a cd of the davening for beginners to learn the tefillah. We also talked about how the obligation for davening isnt just on the leader, but on the community as well! We were reminded about the Chasidic beginnings and nature of Shtibl and how it is important to use Chasidic tunes and style. That also includes not rushing through the davening. We discussed whether or not you have to be a member to daven. There was a sense that you should have to have been at Shtibl and experienced the davening in order to daven. Aryeh suggested teaching a class before services about leading tefillah. Elana Zelony volunteered to head a tefillah committee. We then moved on to talk about Yom Haatzmaut. We were asked by Beth Am if we want to do a program with them. While we decided that the Beth Am option is probably not best for us, there was an interest in having a Shtibl program for Yom Haatzmaut. Aryeh volunteered to head that effort. We spoke about Pesach and decided not to have davening the first 2 days as everyone is focused on and tired from the seders. We will have davening on Shabbat and we are discussing the last 2 days. Jonathan Levine volunteered to coordinate Pesach and will poll people to find out if we have enough people who can commit to signing up for each of the last 2 days. We will go from there in deciding which of those days we want to have davening on. It was also important, though, that we do something as a community for the beginning of Pesach. Sarah Newman will help set people up at seders. It was suggested that Shtibl members try to be at a seder with other Shtibl members. Also, we would like to have some sort of kids/family program on the first day in the afternoon. It will probably be some sort of kids seder that Sarah P and Aryeh will work on. People signe dup to volunteer on Purim and we voted to observe the practice of repeating certain verses during the readeing of the megillah. We then voted to accept a gift of megillot. People suggested a Shtibl Shabbaton. Sarah Newman and Adam Rubin expressed interest in working on that.
